Hunger Action Month
September 1, 2024 - September 30, 2024
In 2008, Feeding America network deemed September as Hunger Action Month (HAM) in an effort to mobilize the public to take action on the issue of hunger nationally. Locally, around 42,000 people in our tri-county area lack access to enough nutritious food for an active, healthy life. Recognizing that hunger and food security is an issue for our community is an important piece of the Hunger Action Month Campaign work. This year, the Partnership for a Healthy Community HEAL Priority action team is working to coordinate some events, print media, and online media all dedicated to education about the hunger and health needs of our neighbors and actionable ways we can support these needs.
Hunger Action Month Events
To achieve awareness around hunger in our communities, we have planned a variety of events:
We invite you to take part - share information and participate in events during the month!
After September is over, the need continues! Consider joining the conversation at the first ever Central Illinois Nutrition Security Summit being held by HEAL- FSP on October 9 & 10 at the Spalding Center in Peoria. The goal of the Central Illinois Nutrition Security Summit is to bring together all those interested in ensuring every member of our community has an equitable ability to find, utilize, and consistently access enough safe, nutritious foods for their optimal health and well-being. Find more information on the event through the Partnership for a Healthy Community Facebook page.
